The upcoming Dutch round of the 2020 WSBK season has been postponed and rescheduled on August 21st-23rd.

The event was originally set to take place on April 17th at Assen, but the outbreak of Coronavirus caused Dorna to remodulate the WorldSBK calendar. Hence, the first round after the revision would be from May 8th-10th at Imola, which sounds rather optimistic given the deteriorating situation in Italy.

The Aragon round (May 22nd-24th) might as well be jeopardized by the measures European governments are applying to contain the spread of the virus.

With a second event in Italy coming up on June 12th-14th, the earliest and most realistic date for the season to resume would be July 3rd-5th in Donington.

“With an ongoing international impact from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Pirelli Dutch Round of the 2020 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship has been postponed. The original date saw the iconic venue scheduled for the weekend of 17th – 19th of April, but will now take place in August, from the 21st – 23rd” reads the statement.

“The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization are continuously working with Circuits and Government Officials following up the situation in each country, putting the safety of everyone first in every case. Information will be released accordingly should there be any further changes to the 2020 Calendar”.

WorldSBK, unlike F1, has not called off its May and June events yet. Within two weeks, the FIA has cancelled and postponed a total of 8 Grands Prix until the first week of June, with Canada iminently bound to share the same destiny as the Azerbaijan GP. With fewer rounds to reschedule and one event carried out in February, World SBK stands in a more favourable position compared to other racing series. Therefore, there is a higher chance for Dorna to make its 2020 season work despite the pandemic.
