Everyone expected 2020 WorldSBK Calendar to have major changes due to ongoing Coronavirus crisis which is suffering the whole world and forced Dorna to apply a lot of changes to MotoGP races as well. The news came this morning, with WorldSBK that saw Imola being removed from 2020 season and Aragon and Misano to be replaced later on the calendar.

Italian GP at the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola was originally planned for May, but it seemed quite hard to have a race there for that date, considering also that Italy is one of the most affected country to COVID-19.

FIM and Dorna Organizations alongside governments came so to a conclusion, deleting the Imola round, while Aragon and Misano ones are rescheduled to 28th-30th August and 6th-8th November. An heartbreaking news for every fans in the world as Imola is one of the most historical track and charming one, but safety goes first.

Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of sporting and organization areas expressed his thoughts: “We are sadly forced to announce that we cannot race in Imola due to ongoing Coronavirus emergency. We had to consider a lot of things as weather conditions we could face later during the year: that is why we decided together with the circuit to delete the round from this 2020. Anyway, we are planning and working to make a fantastic 2021 event”.

Also Formula Imola’s President, Umberto Selvatico Estense, is sad as well: “I am deeply sad for the decision, I say it as President but also as a truly enthusiast guy who lives this Round as a young boy. We are conscious anyway to have done the right choice to protect people’s safety. At the same time, I am optimistic and we are discussing with Dorna for Italian’s Round for next year and for the next three ones I hope. We are ready and strongly motivated to come back on track”.
