MotoGP kicked off Doha with Aleix Espargaro going fastest as Franco Morbidelli running into two mechanical failures

With the laptime of 1:54.779 Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia Racing Gresini’s set the pace at the dyeing stages of FP1.

Behind Aleix was train of three different riders from three different teams ith Alex Rins of Suzuki Ecstar second, Maverick Vinales of Monster Energy Yamaha third and Jorge Martin of Pramac Racing 0.240s behind in fourth place.

The session started with Franco Morbidelli running into mechanical issues, ten minutes into the session his Yamaha SRT had to come back to garages as he went out again on the spare bike. Some minutes into session further Johann Zarco who who finished on Podium at Qatar GP, crashed at Turn 15, fortunately rider walked away unscathed.

Franco Morbidelli who suffered a DNF at Qatar due to Technical Issues, which him and team has admitted is yet not fully understood the cause of, suffered a second issue in the same session, as his bike was seen blowing smoke of the rear, it was just minutes after he set the benchmark time of the session.

Morbidelli was able to improve his benchmark before getting the black and orange flag forcing him to return to pits.

Aprilla’s Espargaro was going enough to beat that time by going quickest of all with the lap time of 1:55.429

It wasn’t until the last 18 minutes when Danilo Petrucci of KTM decided to take charge and went fastest with the lap time of 1:55.263, Morbidelli in his third stint went fastest again with 1:55.125, which he improved further but lap time was cancelled for exceeding track limits.

For the ending times of the session, it was Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro who were trading the top spots with Aleix Espargaro coming out victorious with the lap time of 1:54.779

Alex Rins who was the second rider behind Aleix to break into 1:54 with the lap time of 1:54.839, 0.060s slower than the leader. Third rider to dip into 1:54s was Mavericl Vinales 0.025s behind Rins

Jorge Martin finished forth with Morbidelli completed top five.

Danilo Petrucci on his KTM with lap time of 1:55.263 finished P7 ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Joan Mir. Stefan Bradl and Takaaki Nakagami completed the top ten.

Many of the rides opted for only mediums and hards as session under day light worth nothing for race and Qualifying and these tyres will be useless due to cooler and changed track conditions. Alex Rins was the only rider to opt for soft tyres at the end stage of the session.
