#SanMarinoGP | Marquez Triumphs over Quartararo in Last Lap Battle.
Reigning world champion Marc Marquez outfoxed Rookie of the Year frontrunner Fabio Quartararo, in a stunning last lap battle. Maverick Viñales made it back-to-back podiums by finishing 3rd.
As the lights went out on this afternoon’s premier class #SanMarinoGP, it was Viñales who lead the opening laps. Rookie of the Year contender, Quartararo followed closely, until it became clear that championship leader Marquez was on the move.
Quartararo took the lead and managed to stretch a small gap over his Yamaha compatriot, whilst Marquez looked for a way round Viñales. Quartararo lead the way, as Marquez passed Viñales and set about reeling in the young Frenchman.
Marquez stalked Quartararo for the majority of the race, however in the final lap Marquez made his move on Quartararo. As the young Frenchman fought back, it was clear that Marquez had studied his technique and knew where he could be faster.
Marquez used his experience to ride a clever and calculated race and knew where he could be quicker than Quartararo in the closing laps. Quartararo rode a fantastic race from start to finish, earning the respect of his competitors on his way to his 2nd position. Viñales, Rossi and Morbidelli made it 4 Yamahas in the top 5, an incredibly strong showing for the Japanese manufacturer, who have had some struggles this season.
