Saudi Arabia gone green by hosting the inaugural two rounds of the FIA Formula E calendar this weekend as the jewel of the kingdom, Diriyah, entered history from the widest gates by hosting the first night races ever in history of the electric championship. Point out that SAUDIA (formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines) is the national flag carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Official Airline for Formula-E, Diriyah E-Prix.

Mercedes's Nyck de Vries won the first race of the double-header in Saudi Arabia which held Formula E for the third time. This event was two exceptional events for Formula E and Saudi Arabia together in the history of motorsport; the two rounds ran under the FIA Championship for the first time as Formula E was finally granted championship status by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile.

The pleased Dutchman described the race as a "tough one" to manage from the start regarding the energy. However, Nyck and his team managed to control taking the advantage of the safety cars deployed under the bright lights of Diriyah with the Dutchman driver leading Edoardo Mortara of Rokit VenturiRacing while Mitch Evans of Jaguar Racing finished on the podium third.

The second round of Formula E's Diriyah double-header witnessed the second victory of Sam Bird in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia who is taking a new campaign with his new team, Jaguar Racing. The race finished before the usual time with a red flag, with the British driver leading Robin Frijns of Envision Virgin Racing and Jean-Eric Vergne of DS Techeetah behind him.


Anyhow, It was an honorable event as Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman putting-in-an-appearance at the second race of the Formula E Diriyah E-Prix weekend in Riyadh on Saturday. The man behind the ambitious plan, 2030 vision was received by the Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal, and Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Faisal, chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation.



The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia managed to host successfully a safe season opener of season 7 on an electrifying Friday night while the world is going through an unprecedented challenge in managing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Santiago EPrix was originally scheduled for 16-17 January at the O'Higgins Park venue but it has been delayed due to the pandemic. By hosting so, it marked the third consecutive year at Diriyah EPrix to becomes the season opener for the championship since 2018/2019.




All in all, an overwhelming and thrilling race night on the weekend of the Formula E season as everyone enjoyed the historical event as SAUDIA is fully committed to playing a central role in supporting international sports events hosted by Saudi Arabia in line with the Vision 2030 goal of achieving the targets of 100 million tourists by 2030. In addition, its sponsorship of Formula E reflects SAUDIA’s strong interest in promoting sustainability and renewable energy.

The seventh season has kicked off from the jewel of the kingdom and now heading to Rome as the third round will be held on April 10th.
