A rather dramatic FP3 session took place at Phillip Island. Andrea Iannone tops the combined chart, but newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez was fastest at the end of the free practice, characterised by heavy winds.

No changes have been made within the combined top 10, which will see the same riders featured in Q2 later today, including Hafizh Syahrin. The Malaysian rider has suffered a nasty crash at turn 1 and has been stretchered to the medical centre. Following all the necessary checks, Syahrin has been declared fit to race, despite the initial suspect on a left hand injury.

Marc Marquez tumbled at turn 4 halfway through FP3, but still managed to bounce back.
Andrea Iannone (1'29''291) stays on top of the combined timesheets, but Marc Marquez edged out Maverick Vinales by less than 0.04s with two minutes to go. Alma Pramac's Jack Miller follows closely, glued to the two pacesetters. The Australian rider confirms the competitiveness of his bike, which is second overall with Petrucci.

Suzuki rider Iannone ended up in 4th at the end of the session, ahead of Valentino Rossi (1'29''974). Above the 1'29'' wall we have Pol Espargaro and future KTM tester Daniel Pedrosa. Johann Zarco follows in 8th, beating Ducati's Alvaro Bautista, who is currently replacing Jorge Lorenzo, and Andrea Dovizioso.

As the chart below shows, Iannone, Petrucci, Vinales, Dovizioso, Zarco, Marquez, Miller, Rins, Rossi and Syahrin secured a spot in Q2.
