Jorge Lorenzo is set to have further checks after he suffered from severe hand pain in the past few days. The Spaniard went to hospital in Verona on Saturday and will have further checks to make sure there is no serious injury.

According to local newspaper Il Corriere del Veneto, the Repsol Honda rider went to the emergency room in the Clinica Peschiera de Garda after suffering from pain in one of his hands.

Lorenzo was then discharged from the hospital just two hours later. However, he is set for further tests on Monday as he is suspected to have a scaphoid fracture, according to what Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta revealed.

Even though Lorenzo was hampered with injuries due to his heavy crash in Thailand towards the end of the 2018 season, resulting in the Spaniard missing four races, the current pain in his hand is not linked to that.

Lorenzo will make his first public appearance as a Repsol Honda rider on Wednesday at the team launch in Madrid alongside new teammate and reigning champion Marc Marquez who is also recovering from a shoulder operation he had in December.

Both riders will then travel to Malaysia for the opening pre-season test at Sepang on February 6, 2019.
