MotoGP | Naakagami leads Honda duo as testing wraps up in Jerez
Nakagami sets the pace for 2019 at Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto, as the top three were only covered by a tenth of a second. Honda looks ready for 2019 as three Honda bikes finshed in the top five.
Second and final day of testing belonged to LCR Honda rider Takaaki Nakagam, who after finishing 3rd on first day ended the testing with the first lap and 66 laps under his belt. Reigning champion Marc Marquez followed Japanese rider’s time closely and was just 0.025s shy of top time 1:37.945. Maverick Vianles was also on hot pursuit and finished the day with in tenth of top time at P3.
Today was again a positive day for Honda as the tested a new air box and did times on different compounds. Riders looked content with the bike. Marc Marquez completed 56 laps where as his teammate did 66 laps and his fastest time was set on 65th lap in final hour. Lorenzo finished the P6 only 0.160s off the leader.
At Yamaha side of the garage there were mixed feelings once again Maverick had positive day whereas the old Doctor again struggling to find pace with his bike and not looking happy with the engine. Vinales completed most laps today with 78 laps and Rossi after completing 68 laps only managed P11, 0.651s off the leader’s pace.
Vinales reckoned his times were consistent were as Rossi with his bike accepts more work from the team.
Ducati camp who didn’t seem to be catching time in this test were just correlating the data with Valencia tests and team looked happy with their progress. According to Dovizioso Ducati might be the only team not running after the engine performance. Danilo Petrucci with his 68 laps was just under a two tenths off the pace on p5, whereas Dovizioso with 44 laps finished the day 8th fastest.
Another day another positive track outing for the Moribidelli and his newly formed Petronas Yamaha SRT. Italian did 68 laps and was only 0.17s off the pace at P6. Fabio Quartararo with 58 laps finished P12.
Alma Pramac Ducati team made positive changes over the day and with every change the bike seemed to improve and team progress was rising. Rider Jack miller was the leading bike with 57 laps and P8 time. His teammate Francesco Bagnaia was fastest of the rookies as he wrapped up his testing at P9 and 0.33s of the top spot.
