Vinales on top for FP1 at the Australian Grand Prix

Maverick Vinales tops the first session of the weekend at Philip Island in front of the two Pramac Duacti riders Jack Miller and Danilo Petrucci.

Maverick Vinales tops the first practice session of the weekend on the factory Yamaha at the Australian Grand Prix.

The session started two hours later than scheduled due to a red flag earlier during the Moto3 FP1 session for oil on a wet track.

Vinales topped the time sheets with a 1.29.952 ahead of home favourite Jack Miller who finished second place, +0.037 off the top time, with his teammate Danilo Petrucci on the other Pramac Ducati finished just behind him in third place.

Andrea Dovizioso finished in fourth place on the factory Ducati.

Then it’s the Honda pair of Cal Crutchlow in fifth and Marc Marquez, who crashed in the last few minutes of the session, in sixth place.

Suzuki rider Andrea Iannone finished the session seventh ahead of Tech 3 Yamaha rider Johann Zarco.

Karel Abraham finished ninth on Alvaro Bautista’s 2017 Ducati bike and Valentino Rossi rounded out the top 10 in FP1.

Pol Espargaro managed to get his KTM in 11th place alongside Hafizh Syahrin and Dani Pedrosa in 13th despite crashing out halfway through the session.

Alvaro Bautista, who is riding Jorge Lorenzo’s factory Ducati, finished in 14th place in front of Alex Rins in 15th.

Takaaki Nakagami finished P16, Bradley Smith P17 and Franco Morbidelli in P18.

Scott Redding and Xavier Simeon round out the top 20.
