Thai GP | Dovizioso ahead of Yamaha in FP2 as a tenth covers top 5
few hundredths separated Dovizioso from the second place man Yamaha while his teammate in second Desmosedeci crashed heavily
Second free practice two at the inaugural Thai GP with Marc Marquez in works Honda setting a blistering time of 1:31.188 on his second lap, a tenths clear of Dovizioso in Ducati.
Dani Pedrosa wasted no time steal the second slot from Italian and went 2nd fastest but still almost half a second adrift from the bench mark set by Marc.
Halfway through the session time: top five were Marquez leading from Pedrosa who was further few tenths ahead of Petrucci and Dovizioso and Bautista completed top 5.
The Marquez’s time topped the timing sheets until it was four minutes remaining in the session when FP1 star Maverick Vinales went fastest but only by a margin of 0.067s.
Dovizioso in his Ducati Desmosedeci was the first man to break the 1:31.1 barrier and posted his best time of 1:31.090 which remained on top as session concluded.
Behind Dovizios was Vinales and then late effort from Cal Crutchlow on his LCR Honda able to beat the earlier benchmark of Marquez to go third fastest with a time of 1:31.168. Marquez on soft compound only managed to improve by 0.050s and finished 4th.
Danillo Petrucci of Pramac Ducati completed the top 5, 0.018 ahead of Suzuki’s Andrea Iannone.
Dani Pedrosa who was second in the Honda 1-2 for most of the session ended 8th fastest a 0.007s behind Alvaro Bautista and 0.013s ahead of Valentino Rossi, who finished a well clear 0.3sec behind his teammate.
Johan Zarco in tech 3 Yamaha completed the top 10.
Analysis: There is still lot more to come from the teams as the top time is yet more than a second off the pace of the time Ducati set in pre-season testing here.
Crashers: Lorenzo suffered a massive crash at Turn 3 in late stages of the session but his earlier time was good enough for P16.
