Dutch GP | Race Preview
A look back to the #CatalanGP, the current championship standings and all that Assen has brought us over the years.
Last weekend's #CatalanGP saw Jorge Lorenzo win for the second time on his Ducati Desmosedici GP19. A flawless ride by the Spaniard showed that his win at the #ItalianGP had not been by luck. Marc Marquez took 2nd in the race, followed by Valentino Rossi. The MotoGP riders arrive at the 'Cathedral' very much in the shadow of Lorenzo, after 2 convincing wins he is now ahead of his teammate for the first time since joining Ducati.
As the only track to have remained on the MotoGP calendar since 1949, it's no surprise that the TT Circuit Assen is a rider favourite and has been home to many historic battles over the years. We fondly remember the battles in more recent years, between Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden in 2006, and Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez in 2015, both these races were iconic in their own ways, once again showcasing what a spectacular track TT Circuit Assen is.
Thursday's press conference will feature Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi, Johann Zarco, Cal Crutchlow, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. The current MotoGP World Championship leader is Marc Marquez, who leads Valentino Rossi by 27 points, in 3rd place is Maverick Viñales.
2 years ago, history was made at the TT Circuit Assen, when Jack Miller took his maiden win aboard the team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Honda, the first Independent team win since Toni Elias at Estoril in 2006.
Valentino Rossi has an incredible record at this track, including 10 wins. Rossi won the #DutchGP in 2017, which was Yamaha's last victory. Rossi will be looking to end Yamaha's drought, and with the three podiums in the last three races, the stage is set.
Current leader of the race for Rookie of the Year, Franco Morbidelli will be looking to extend out his lead over Hafizh Syahrin.
Friday looks to be sunny with little/no cloud cover and highs of 21°C. The sunny weather will continue throughout Saturday and Sunday with peak temperatures across the weekend set to be 26°C.
