MotoGP | #SpanishGP | First Blood to Bagnaia on Day 1.
On the opening day of the #SpanishGP, Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia topped the timesheets, ahead of Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, and Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Aleix Espargaro.
At the end of the opening day of the #SpanishGP Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia was the man to beat, having set a time of 1:37.209. Winner of last year’s #SpanishGP Fabio Quartararo placed 2nd, with a time of 1:37.387. Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Aleix Espargaro was the star of the first two free practice sessions, placing 3rd overall with a time of 1:37.646.
Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Franco Morbidelli started his #SpanishGP campaign strong, placing 4th. Monster Energy Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales placed 5th, after a difficult morning session. Top Honda on the opening day was LCR IDEMITSU’s Takaaki Nakagami, who was 6th quickest overall.
Top KTM heading into tomorrow’s qualifying sessions will be Miguel Oliveira, who placed 7th. Team Suzuki ECSTAR’s Alex Rins placed 8th overall. Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco secured 9th, as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Brad Binder completed the top 10.
Ducati Lenovo’s Jack Miller missed out on a place in the top 10 on the opening day of the #SpanishGP. Reigning World Champion Joan Mir appeared to have some teething problems during FP1, he also missed out on a top 10 spot. The only rider who did not improve on his FP1 time was Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez, who placed 16th overall, with work to be done ahead of qualifying tomorrow. LCR CASTROL’s Alex Marquez struggled on the opening day, placing 20th, just ahead of Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Valentino Rossi: both will aim to improve upon their times during FP3. Tito Rabat, who is replacing the injured Jorge Martín for Pramac Racing, placed 23rd, despite having a crash at turn 13 while chasing a personal best laptime.
Top Rookie on the opening day was SKY VR46 Esponsorama Racing’s Luca Marini, who placed 15th on the opening day.
Can Bagnaia keep the Yamaha’s at bay to take pole during qualifying or will A. Espargaro steal pole position for Aprilia?
