MotoGP | #PortugueseGP | FP3: Quartararo Leads the Way into Qualifying.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo topped the timesheets ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session. Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Franco Morbidelli placed 2nd, ahead of Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia who rounded out the top 3. Who will secure the final 2 Q2 spots?
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo topped the timesheets for the final practice session before this afternoon’s qualifying session, with a time of 1:39.044. After struggling at the first 2 Grand Prix of the season, Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Franco Morbidelli placed 2nd with a time of 1:39.095, a promising session prior to qualifying. Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the top 3 with a time of 1:39.117.
Championship leader, Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco heads into qualifying 4th fastest. Team Suzuki ECSTAR’s Alex Rins ended free practice in 5th position, securing his direct spot in Q2. Jack Miller placed 6th aboard his Ducati Lenovo machine, ready to mount his attack during qualifying.
Top Rookie, SKY VR46 Esponsorama Racing’s Luca Marini secured a direct Q2 spot for the first time in his MotoGP career, placing 7th overall throughout free practice. Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Aleix Espargaro continued his impressive form, placing 8th. Portugal’s own Miguel Oliveira, who qualified on pole position at last year’s #PortugueseGP, placed 9th ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session. Monster Energy Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales stole the last direct Q2 spot, placing 10th.
Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martín suffered a heavy crash during the FP3 session, after appearing to struggle during the opening day. Martín lost consciousness during the crash and has been declared unfit to continue in this weekend’s #PortugueseGP, due to head, right hand and right ankle injuries. We wish Jorge a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on track very soon.
Battling through Q1 will be Alex Marquez, who suffered a high-side crash at the end of the Q2 session. Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Valentino Rossi will be battling to ensure all 4 Yamahas have a spot in Q2. Reigning World Champion Joan Mir, and the returning Marc Marquez, will also battle through Q1.
Can Quartararo maintain top spot, or will the Bologna Bullets steal pole position?
