Miguel Oliveira takes pole position on home soil ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Jack Miller. World Champion Joan Mir struggled on finding the right pace: the Spaniard will start from 20th
Surely this is a day Miguel Oliveira will never forget. Portuguese rider took maiden pole position in home soil being the fastest rider on Portimao track. Red Bull Tech 3 KTM rider appeared to be really quick from the start of the weekend and finalized his pace in the last session of qualifying being uncatchable for everyone.
Franco Morbidelli tried to conquer another pole after a Q1 passage but could not be faster than Oliveira. Anyway the Italian could be satisfied as he risked to do not pass into the last session of qualifying. First row is completed by Jack Miller who will start alongside those two riders.
4th on the grid is Cal Crutchlow who was Q1 leader ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Stefan Bradl who made an impressive qualifying with Honda HRC. 7th Johann Zarco ahead of Maverick Vinales and Pol Espargaro.
Alex Rins qualified himself in 10th after a nasty crash yesterday followed by Takaaki Nakagami and Andrea Dovizioso. The Italian in his last qualifying with Ducati had some good laps but not enough to be faster than 12th position.
Bad luck for Brad Binder who did not manage to pass Q1, same Aleix Espargaro. Bad qualifying session for Valentino Rossi as well who is in trouble from yesterday. Things went even worse for the World Champion as Joan Mir will start from 20th.
