MotoGP | AlcañizGP | Nakagami Fastest on Day 1!
LCR Honda IDEMITSU’s Nakagami found himself at the top of the timesheets, ahead of Monster Energy Yamaha’s Viñales, and LCR Honda CASTROL’s Crutchlow. Championship contender Dovizioso and the rest of the Ducati camp struggled over the course of the opening free practise sessions; can they turn it around for tomorrows qualifying session?
Takaaki Nakagami was on fire on the opening day of the #AlcañizGP, setting a time of 1:47.782. Maverick Viñales placed 2nd, with a time of 1:47.957, ahead of Cal Crutchlow in 3rd, setting a time of 1:48.111.
After struggling throughout FP1, championship contender Fabio Quartararo seemed to have solved his problems by FP2, managed to place himself 4th. Championship leader, Suzuki’s Joan Mir placed 5th; after a consistent opening day, he will be optimistic for tomorrow’s Qualifying session.
After a sudden change in stature for Alex Marquez, he led FP1 and managed to place 6th overall on the opening day; a particularly impressive show from the Repsol rookie, as he looks to make it 3 podiums in a row at the #AlcañizGP. Last weekend’s race winner Alex Rins looked fast over the opening sessions, managing 7th after a late time attack during FP2.
Red Bull KTM Tech 3’s contender for Rookie of the Year, Iker Lecuona impressed on the opening day, setting a late lap time to place 8th. Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Aleix Espargaro placed 9th overall, he will be pushing for his best result this weekend, after some controversy during last weekend’s Q2 session. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pol Espargaro placed 10th; after a disappointing result last weekend, he will be looking for redemption this weekend.
Repsol Honda’s test rider Stefan Bradl impressed throughout the Free Practise sessions, finishing 11th overall; an incredibly strong showing for the Honda camp, can they continue this form through qualifying and into the race?
What is striking about the opening day’s combined times, is that the fastest Ducati was Esponsorama Racing’s Johann Zarco, who placed 13th overall. Danilo Petrucci, Jack Miller, Andrea Dovizioso, Francesco Bagnaia and Tito Rabat found themselves at the bottom of the timesheets after Friday’s Free Practise sessions. After a dismal weekend for Ducati at the #AragonGP will their nightmare continue through the #AlcañizGP?
Can Suzuki conquer their qualifying woes, or will Yamaha spoil the party once again? We look forward to tomorrow’s FP3 and Qualifying sessions to find out…
