Franco Morbidelli took his first ever pole position in MotoGP at the Catalunya GP with an outstanding time of 1:38.798, Fabio Quartararo and Valentino Rossi will start on the front row to complete a Yamaha front row lock out.

The track conditions seemed to have calmed down from yesterday, there was a lot less wind around and this would be a lot more manageable for the riders in the upcoming session.

For Q1, there were some big names including championship leader, Andrea Dovizioso, Jack Miller and Pecco Bagnaia competing to get the top two places.

Halfway through the session, the times finally got into the 1:39s as Miller set the pace for the rest of the field to target.

Miller looked like the rider to beat as he finished top of the Q1 session and Nakagami finished second on his LCR Honda and progressed into Q2.

In Q2, Morbidelli set the pace with a 1:39.1 with Miller just behind - clearly carrying his momentum from Q1.

It looked like it would be Morbidelli’s teammate Quartararo who would snatch pole position away from the Italian in the final runs. However, Morbidelli took it back with his final lap and nobody could get close.

Quartararo will start in second place with Rossi completing the front row in third place for an all Yamaha front row.

Miller will start the race in fourth place, Misano winner Maverick Vinales will start in fifth place and Johann Zarco completes the second row on his Ducati.

Pol Espargaro qualified in seventh, Joan Mir in eighth and Danilo Petrucci ninth.

Brad Binder will start in 10th place alongside Nakagami in 11th and Miguel Oliveira will start in 12th place on his Tech 3 KTM as he crashed in the middle of the Q2 session.

Alex Rins just missed out on the top two spots in Q1 and will start tomorrow’s race in 13th place on his Suzuki.

Bagnaia who was a strong race contender last week in Misano will start in 14th place and Aleix Esparagro in 15th.

Cal Crutchlow qualified 16th place despite all his injury woes, ahead of championship leader Dovizioso who will start in 17th place.

Rookie Alex Marquez qualified in 18th place, Iker Lecuona in 19th and Stefan Bradl in 20th. Bradley Smith and Tito Rabat round out the grid.

Tomorrow’s race will start at 15:00 local time (GMT+2) - with all the races starting an hour later than usual.
