MotoGP | Catalan GP | FP1-FP2: Franco Morbidelli leads the way
Misano 1 winner Franco Morbidelli tops time sheets at the end of the day scoring the fastest lap in the second session of free practices despite a heavy crash. Johann Zarco follows him with Brad Binder 3rd
After an unlucky race in Misano last Sunday, Franco Morbidelli wants to come back on top as showed in the first day of free practices in Barcelona. Petronas SRT rider is the quickest rider on track being able to ride under the 1.40 and felt good on his bike through the whole day as he had good pace in FP1 as well.
Johann Zarco follows him being capable to ride under the 1.40 too putting himself on 2nd place, while Brad Binder ended on 3rd. Yamaha seems to be fine in Barcelona as Maverick Vinales crossed the line in 4th at the end of the day, while Valentino Rossi is 10th combined overall and Fabio Quartararo 6th.
The number 20 from Petronas did not make a fast lap in the afternoon but topped morning’s session and he is still inside the top 10. 5th is Takaaki Nakagami who is showing constant progress, while Joan Mir finished 7th despite a small crash in the morning but the Spaniard did not lose his confidence with his Suzuki.
Pol Espargaro ended in 8th ahead of Alex Marquez, who is actually into Q2, while Alex Rins, Jack Miller, Aleix Espargaro, Andrea Dovizioso and Francesco Bagnaia did not snatch a direct access. All this riders should make a good FP3 session to avoid a tough first session of qualifying
