Championship leader, Quartararo topped the time sheets with a time of 1:32.189. Viñales placed 2nd, setting a lap time of 1:32.198 in FP1, making him the only rider not to improve through FP2, whilst Morbidelli made it an all Yamaha top 3, setting a time of 1:32.367.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s P.Espargaro placed 4th. Red Bull KTM Tech 3’s contender for Rookie of the Year Lecuona had a remarkable opening day at the #SanMarinoGP, placing 5th after what has been a strong start to the season for the KTM camp. Rossi managed 6th overall after FP2, leaving Yamaha with all 4 competitors in the top 5 heading into tomorrow’s all-important qualifying sessions.

Petrucci got off to a strong start to this weekend’s #SanMarinoGP, he placed 7th, coming out of the opening day as fastest Ducati. Despite a crash and walking away unscathed during FP2, Binder placed 8th, closely followed by KTM compatriot Oliveira in 9th, meaning KTM head into Saturday’s sessions with all of their riders in the top 10. Top Aprilia for the opening day is A. Espargaro, placing 10th, after an incredible FP1 session for the Italian factory.

Notable names outside the top 10 heading into qualifying day include, Dovizioso, who placed 11th overall, he will look to improve on this time throughout tomorrows FP3 session, in order to cement his grid positions to score all-important championship points, as he sits 2nd in the standings. Pramac Racing’s Miller, who currently sits 3rd in the championship standings appears to have struggled on the opening day, placing 17th, leaving plenty of room for improvement throughout FP3, or risking having to fight through Q1.

The fastest contender for Rookie of the Year over the course of the opening day of the #SanMarinoGP was Lecuona, placing 5th.
