It is an astonishing Maverick Vinales who snatches pole position in Austria for the first race at Red Bull Ring! The Spaniard from Factory Yamaha made a superb lap being able to put himself ahead of everyone, starting from Jack Miller. The Australian tried to jump ahead of Vinales in his last attempt but was not fast enough, even though he will start from 2nd on the grid.

3rd is Fabio Quartararo, who had his chances to be on pole position but could be satisfied overall with his start position. Petronas Yamaha SRT rider is followed by Andrea Dovizioso and Pol Espargaro, who both had good pace but will start from 2nd row. The Italian was able to be on provisional pole but everyone improved their crono in the final stages of the session.

Joan Mir brings Suzuki to 6th, ahead of Franco Morbidelli and his teammate Alex Rins, while Johann Zarco closes third row. 10th is Takaaki Nakagami, followed by Miguel Oliveira and Valentino Rossi, who had to face a tough Q1 alongside Johann Zarco

Q1 saw some big name as Valentino Rossi, Johann Zarco, Danilo Petrucci and last GP winner Brad Binder fighting for a Q2 spot, over than Cal Crutchlow and Aleix Espargaro with his Aprilia. While Johann Zarco put himself immediately into an almost secure Q2 spot, Valentino Rossi and Danilo Petrucci fought until the last second to snatch an access to the last session of qualifying.

Frenchman from Reale Avintia Ducati made in his first run an impressive lap, but at the end his margin on rivals was not that much. Indeed, it was Valentino Rossi who made it through Q2 running at just 0.026s from Zarco, followed by Danilo Petrucci, who was almost sure to have a Q2 access.

The Italian from Factory Ducati had troubles with Aleix Espargaro, with the Spaniard who probably slowed Danilo down in his fast lap. Petrucci was not too happy with that and showed how much disappointed was on track and even in the pit lane after the chequered flag.
