#MotoGP: Alex Marquez to Honda LCR, Cal Crutchlow leaves
As Pol Espargaro has been announced to Honda HRC, Alex Marquez will join Honda LCR to replace Cal Crutchlow who will leave HRC after 5 years where he achieved 3 wind and 12 podiums
With Pol Espargaro joining Honda HRC it was quite obvious that Alex Marquez needed to find a seat and that Honda would have placed him into Honda LCR and after the official announcement of Pol it was finally time to announce Alex Marquez to LCR too.
2019 Moto2 World Champion signed a 2-year contract with HRC to replace Cal Crutchlow, with the Briton who will leave HRC at the end of the season as Takaaki Nakagami will be confirmed even for 2021.
Crutchlow had some memorable moments with Honda as he conquered 3 wins and 12 podiums during his journey with them, but after 5 years for HRC it was time to say goodbye thanking Cal for the “diligent and tireless work” being of course “a key part of developing the Honda RC213V”
That means Alex Marquez will have Factory treatment but not Factory colors on his bike for 2021 and 2022. Maybe not the scenario he wanted, but not the worst one for Alex, who will have his chance to rise firstly during this season where he will partner his brother in Honda Repsol Team.
These are Alex Marquez’s word on the deal with LCR: “I am very proud to announce my renewal with Honda Racing Corporation. HRC gave me the opportunity to race in MotoGP and I am glad to join LCR Honda at the end of 2020 season. It is a great team with a big experience. I want to thank HRC and LCR for their trust in me, I will work hard to prove confidence with results”
