#QatarGP, Joe Roberts with a stunning pole position for… 0.000s
Joe Roberts gets his maiden pole position with the American who keeps surprising everyone and will start from 1st: Luca Marini is 2nd doing exactly the same time but had a worse second fast lap, while Enea Bastianini closes first row
As happened for Moto3, first 2020 Moto2 Q1 was a really busy and interesting one as well. A lot of big names fought for a spot into Q2, with Lorenzo Baldassarri, Marcel Schrotter and Jorge Navarro who had to make a super job on getting themselves into the top 4 positions to obtain the access into last session of qualifying.
The three anyway did not disappoint the expectations and managed to qualify themselves into the second and last session of qualifying, with Marcel Schrotter who topped the session ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri and Jorge Navarro, showing how strong they was, while 4th position was taken by Edgar Pons, who took off Somkiat Chantra in the final stages of the session.
Joe Roberts then kept showing how strong he is during the weekend surprising everyone, conquering his maiden pole position ahead of Luca Marini for just… 0.000s! The two made exactly the same time, but the American rider had a better second fast lap than Sky Racing Team rider and was so able to start ahead of everyone. Enea Bastianini closes first row with a really good qualifying session.
4th position for Jorge Navarro, followed by Bo Bendsneyder and Remy Gardner. Marco Bezzecchi will start from third row in 7th in a session where him and his teammate Luca Marini did a lot of job together, who surely helped both on getting fast laps. Jorge Martin finished 8th with Lorenzo Baldassarri and Xavi Vierge in top 10, just ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Augusto Fernandez.
