There was a lot of expectations for the last pre-season MotoGP test in Qatar, where riders will be involved in the first race of the year as well. After Sepang’s pre-season MotoGP test everyone wanted to see the performance of the bikes on track, with some teams who brought some new parts to try. Yamaha tried again the ‘holeshot’ device for better starts.

Ducati tried the rear-lowering device tested in Sepang already with Jack Miller working on it: the system should allow the bike to squat down on the straights even during the race and not only on the starts. Suzuki finally brought the ‘holeshot’ system too, joining Ducati, Aprilia and Yamaha on this particular start device.

At the end of the day it was Alex Rins who topped time sheet with a 1.54.464. It was a busy for everyone, but at the end the Spaniard from Suzuki made the best lap time, who stayed out until last minutes of the session and improved his lap time just in the final stages of the first day. His teammate Joan Mir ended just behind him, with just 2 thousandths of a second who separate the two, followed by Maverick Vinales in 3^rd.

Danilo Petrucci put his Ducati on 4^th on time sheet, while Franco Morbidelli is the first Yamaha on the table finishing 5^th ahead of Marc Marquez (who is still suffering due to the operated shoulder) and Valentino Rossi, with the Italian who is the last rider being able to ride under the 1.55. Behind him we have indeed Fabio Quartararo, followed by Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro: the Spaniard from Aprilia kept showing the progress made from Noale’s crew, being able to lead the session in the middle of the day.

Andrea Dovizioso finished 11^th riding until the final stages of the session, followed by Johann Zarco and Jack Miller, while Pol Esaprgaro and Takaaki Nakagami finished 14^th and 15^th. Rookie Brad Binder ended in 16^th being one second slower than Rins, while Iker Lecuona and Alex Marquez did not have an easy day but surely learned a lot and finished in 20^th and 21^st.
