The opening day of the #AustralianGP began in wet conditions, catching several riders out, however FP2 remained dry. Rookie of the Year, Quartararo suffered a crash in the mixed conditions of FP1, however despite being declared fit for FP2 he did not take part due to the painkillers he was administered following his earlier crash. P. Espargaro suffered a fairly substantial crash in the closing minutes of FP2, however the rider walked away uninjured.

Yamaha’s Viñales topped the timesheets on the opening day, with a time of 1’28:824. Rossi placed 7^th, with a time of 1’29:436. Morbidelli placed ******, setting a time 1’29:718.

LCR Honda CASTROL’s Crutchlow placed 3^rd on the opening day, with a time of 1’29:325. 2019 MotoGP World Champion Marquez placed 6^th, overall on the opening day, after a brief coming together with his teammate Lorenzo, setting a time of 1’29:421.

Ducati’s front runner Dovizioso had a strong opening day, placing 2^nd overall, with a time of 1’29:320. Petrucci showed some pace over the opening sessions, placing himself 4^th, with a time of 1’29:327. Home hero, Miller placed 5^th, having set a time of 1’29:344.

Suzuki’s Rins was the fastest of the Suzuki duo on the opening day, setting a time of 1’29:472 placed him 8^th.

Aprilia frontrunner A. Espargaro set a time of 1’29:791, placing him 10^th.
