#ThaiGP | Advantage Marquez Ahead of Quartararo in Morning Warm Up
After mixed conditions on qualifying day, Marquez holds the advantage heading into this afternoon’s race. Quartararo followed in 2nd, whilst Viñales rounded out the top three.
Yamaha’s contender for Rookie of the Year, Quartararo has qualified on pole position for this afternoon’s #ThaiGP, for the 4th time in his rookie season, making him the youngest rider to take 4 pole positions in the premier class of Grand Prix racing (aged 20 years and 168 days). On his way to pole position Quartararo set a new all-time lap record at Buriram, despite a crash at the end of Q2. Fellow Yamaha compatriot, Viñales has qualified in 2nd, which is the 8th time this season he has qualified in the top 3. Marquez, who bas crashed during the FP1 session, and the Q2 session of this weekend’s proceedings, qualified in 3rd. If Marquez scores two or more points more than Dovizioso today, he will be MotoGP World Champion for the 6th time.
Honda’s championship contender, Marquez topped this morning’s final Warm Up session, setting a time of 1’30.921. Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Quartararo finished the session 2nd, with a time of 1’31.149. Fellow Yamaha compatriot, Viñales set a time of 1’31.181, placing him 3rd.
Rossi and Morbidelli made it 4 Yamaha’s in the top 5. Rossi set a time of 1’31.329, placing him 4th. Whilst Morbidelli set a 1:31:421, placing him 5th. Ducati’s championship contender, Dovizioso, set a time of 1:31:463, placing him 6th.
Mir set a time of 1’31.485, which placed him 7th, ahead of this afternoon’s #ThaiGP. After his spill at the Brno test, Mir has shown incredible pace and has impressed since his return. A.Espargaro placed 8th, having set a 1’31.579. Rins placed 9th, with a time of 1’31.583, an exceptionally strong showing from the Suzuki duo. Pramac Racing’s Miller, who has shown some impressive pace this weekend, placed 10th after setting a time of 1’31.678.
