Fabio Quartararo shines once again in Buriram with French rookie who was able to obtain another a stunning pole position ahead of Maverick Vinales and Marc Marquez in a session where we had many falls; MotoGP riders did not have to face a tricky asphalt as Moto3 guys did due to the circuit becoming dry minute after minute, but grip was still not the best.

Anyway, first of all it was Danilo Petrucci who was able to join Q2 after a tough Friday where he ended outside top 10, forcing the Italian to do the first session of qualifying where also Cal Crutchlow, Pol Espargaro and Francesco Bagnaia were fast. At the end, Italian GP winner snatched first position from everyone and put himself on top, while compatriot Francesco Bagnaia tried to do the same but ended on the gravel on his fast lap.

That ruined every chances for 2018 Moto2 World Champion who had to give up, leaving Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro fighting for the second and last useful position to get the access to the last session of qualifying. The Briton seemed to have the pace to be that guy, but the Spaniard was faster during his last attempt forcing LCR Honda rider to start from 13th position on the grid.

When it was Q2 moment, everyone was expecting Marc Marquez to be the guy to beat, with Maverick Vinales and Fabio Quartararo ready to ruin his party. However, first twist was Valentino Rossi falling down during his first run, with the Italian who ended his first fast lap on the gravel but was still able to come back to box to jump on his second bike to try a second run to qualify himself in a good position.

Meanwhile, Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo fought for pole position, with the French who was able to get an impressive lap under the 1.30 both in first and second run, with reigning World Champion who had a good time but not fast enough to be on top of the table after the first attempt.

Things did not chance in the final stages of the qualifying, with the Spaniard who gave everything to snatch pole position from Quartararo’s hands and even pushed too much crashing in his fast lap where he was going faster than Yamaha Petronas rider. Fabio had same destiny, but he was able to perform another fast lap before crashing too ending his qualifying going down. Q2 was still not over yet, because Maverick Vinales was engaged on a really good attempt, with the Spaniard from Factory Yamaha who was able to put himself between Quartararo and Marquez being really close to pole position time.

Franco Morbidelli opens second row in 4th, with Danilo Petrucci who took benefit from the confidence acquired in Q1 and finished in 5th ahead of Jack Miller. Title contender Andrea Dovizioso will start from 7th on the grid, not the ideal situation to stop Marquez from his 8th World Title, with Joan Mir 8th and Valentino Rossi 9th at the end of the qualifying; surely not a satisfying one for the 9-Time World Champion who was expecting a lot better after being fast in free practice sessions, while Alex Rins ended on top 10
