#AustrianGP | Mike di Meglio holds off Simeon for 0.011s to get second ever E-Pole
It is again a stunning pole position for Marc Marquez, who obtain another top performance being almost half of a second faster than everyone; first rider to follow him is Fabio Quartararo, with Andrea Dovizioso closing first row
Second ever MotoE session of qualifying was a one to remember with many twists during the E-Pole where riders had just one shot to get a fast lap to qualify themselves for tomorrow’s race with many riders being close to each other able to conquer pole position.
In this scenario, Randy De Puniet was the first rider going on track because he had last combined times during the three sessions of free practice, but the French went out of track limits seeing his lap cancelled and same happened for Nico Terol. Things went even worse for Mattia Casadei, with the Italian who had a lot of pace during the FP but ended his lap crashing at turn 3 ruining in the worse way possible his qualifying.
First ever winner Niki Tuuli qualified himself in 5th after leading Friday’s sessions, with Jesko Raffin ahead of him opening second row. Pole position went so to a fantastic Mike Di Meglio, who was able to perform a 1.35.182 that guaranteed him pole position for just 11 thousandths of a second from Xavier Simeon. Bradley Smith ended first row with just one tenth of a second of gap.
Hector Garzo closes second row being 6th, while and Italian duo composed by Matteo Ferrari and Alex De Angelis opens third row, with Eric Granado 9th at the end of qualifying. Maria Herrera ends top 10, finishing ahead of Niccolò Canepa and Sete Gibernau.
