#AustrianGP | Romano Fenati is back in business and takes Moto3 pole!
Sniper rider needed a good result in Austria and managed to get it passing even through Q1, taking a superb pole position in Austria ahead of Ayumu Sasaki (but will be penalized) and Jaume Masia
Q1 was crucial for some riders who searched redemption to shine and get the access into last session of qualifying to have a good race; in that scenario it was Andrea Migno who finally came back on top with a good lap time. The Italian from Bester Dubai Capital needed a good result after hard times and finally managed to reach it. Romano Fenati is living a similar situation and Snipers rider was good enough to get top 4, snatching an important access to Q2 just ahead of Migno.
Two Italians were after Jaume Masia, who got a late last fast lap to obtain Q1 lead, being faster than everyone, just 23 thousandths of a second of Romano. Last rider qualified was Alonso Lopez even if the Spaniard has to start from pit-lane, holding off Stefano Nepa for just 0.059s.
Q2 was thrilling as usual, with the classification in doubt until last lap, as long as almost every rider waited for a slipstream creating a mega group; only Celestino Vietti, who crashed in the earlier stages of the session, and John McPhee did their lap alone, with the first one who ended in 11th and the Briton who finished 4th, just 1 thousandth slower than Jaume Masia who got first row. Anyway, McPhee will still have first row, because Ayumu Sasaki is having a 12 grid position penalty.
The fastest one was Romano Fenati, who comes back in business taking himself to pole position after 2 years from the last one, thanks to a stunning last fast lap; also his teammate Tony Arbolino was engaged on a good crono, but lost a lot of time in the final sector ending in 8th (6th thanks to Ogura and Sasaki’s penalties). 5th was indeed Ai Ogura, but penalized with a 12 grid position, that means Kaito Toba, 6th after Q2, will start from 4th and Tatsuki Suzuki 5th.
Lorenzo Dalla Porta qualified himself in 9th ahead of Raul Fernandez but will start in 7th, with Antonelli 12th and 10th on the grid. Not the best qualifying for Aron Canet, with championship leader who struggled a bit and ended in 14th (12th on the grid thanks to the penalties)
