#AustrianGP | Celestino Vietti shines in Moto3 FP2
A great afternoon for the Italian Rookie from Sky Racing who did even better than FP1 putting his bike in front of everyone, with John McPhee just behind and Tatsuki Suzuki 3rd with less than one tenth of a second of gap
Red Bull Ring seems to be a good track for Celestino Vietti, with Italian rookie who never rode in Austria but was already fast since FP1 where he showed good pace overall putting himself on top position. Things went even better during the afternoon, with Vietti who ended ahead of everyone second session of free practice doing a lot of laps (20).
Just 31 thousandths of a second separate him from John McPhee, with the Briton who finished in 2nd ahead of Tatsuki Suzuki, who is just 0.053s slower than FP2 leader. A good session overall for the two guys who are fast on a single lap. 4th position for Ayumu Sasaki, last rider going under the 1.37 and three tenths of a second slower than Vietti.
5th place for Tony Arbolino who is at this point first rider going over the 1.37 with the Italian from Snipers being faster than Jaume Masia, 6th, and Niccolò Antonelli, 7th, with the three really close. Ai Ogura follows them with Salac 9th. Dennis Foggia had that position initially, but during his fast lap exceeded track limits and his crono was cancelled, putting him out of Q2 as well.
Last 4 places for Q2 are acutally taken by Marcos Ramirez, FP1 leader Jakub Kornfeil, Lorenzo Dalla Porta and Raul Fernandez. This session could have been crucial for Q2 as long as there is some rain predicted on the circuit tomorrow; not a great news for championship leader Aron Canet, 27th at the end of FP2, but still into Q2 thanks to a 14th combined time. In a first moment, the Spaniard was out but some laps were cancelled due to track limits and Max Racing Team rider took benefit at that point from it.
