Austrian’s weekend starts in the best way possible for Pons’ squad as long as Augusto Fernandez topped the first session of free practice during the morning with the Spaniard who seemed to be really fast and same for his teammate Lorenzo Baldassarri; the Italian finished in 7th but had the first time for a while before Race Direction cancelled it due to exceeding track limits.

A small crash did not stop Iker Lecuona and Marcel Schrotter on being fast and in top positions during the morning with the Spaniard who finished in 2nd just ahead of the German Rider from Dynavolt Intact GP. 4th position for Brad Binder, who surely wants to get a good result for KTM, involved in a home Grand Prix at Red Bull Ring.

Good session also for Luca Marini and Mattia Pasini, with the two separated by just 2 thousandths of a second and far almost two tenths of a second from FP1 leader; 8th place for Jorge Navarro, who suffered a little crash as happened for his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio at the end of the session, with the Italian who ended in 21st.

Championship leader Alex Marquez is 9th ahead of Andrea Locatelli, while Jonas Folger comes back on track as long as Pawi has again to stop due to an injury and the German finished 11th; Tom Luthi, Xavi Vierge and Nicolò Bulega are actually last riders who have the spot for the direct access to Q2.
