Tricky asphalt in MotoGP qualifying with Marc Marquez who made another masterpiece with slick tyres on fifty-fifty track, followed by Jack Miller who did the same and a surprising Johann Zarco
It was a tricky MotoGP qualifying session as long as MotoGP riders had to face a not easy asphalt due to rain fell down during Moto3 qualifying but then sun appeared starting to dry the track. Anyway, Q1 saw MotoGP guys going out with wet tyres because circuit was not dry enough for slick compounds in a session in which there was hard fight for the 2 spots for Q2.
At the end, KTM duo snatched the access to last session of qualifying with Johann Zarco ahead of Pol Espargaro in his last attempt with the French being really good on find a fast lap during his last chance, with the Spaniard slower than just 0.020s. Nothing to do for Takaaki Nakagami and Francesco Bagnaia who tried their best but were not fast enough. A surprising Sylvain Guintoli seemed he could be the real twist of the day with Suzuki test rider who has been really fast in wet condition but not enough to get an incredible Q2 access.
Asphalt was not fully dry during last session of qualifying, even if some riders tried to go out with slick tyres; only two riders who were able to get benefit from that with Marc Marquez and Jack Miller who got first two position on the grid It was another masterpiece from reigning World Champion who risked everything on a really tricky asphalt being really close to crash but Marquez was brave and good enough to make a fast lap having over two seconds of gap than everyone!
Miller suffered a little crash in his last attempt but was still able to put himself in 2nd with slick compound, while Johann Zarco snatched an incredible first row with his KTM with wet tyres. Andrea Dovizioso rode with the same compounds and ended in 4th ahead of Pol Espargaro, while Alex Rins ended 6th after a clash with Marquez in the middle of the session.
Valentino Rossi opens 3rd row with the Italian who went out with wet tyres followed by Danilo Petrucci and Maverick Vinales, with the two who tried slick compounds without being effective. Fabio Quartararo, Cal Crutchlow and Franco Morbidelli will start from fourth row.
