Lorenzo Baldassarri’s season started in the best way possible leading the championship and being successful in Qatar, Argentina and Jerez, crashing out in Austin due to a contact with Jorge Martin in a really unlucky way. It seemed that the Italian was the main candidate at that point for the title, but things did not go in the way in which Lorenzo wanted and after the first part of the season he is even behind his teammate Augusto Fernandez.

After Jerez’s victory, Baldassarri crashed out at Le Mans in early stages on the race involving also Mattia Pasini, finished 4th at Mugello in his home grand prix but crashed out again at Cataluyna while he was trying to make a comeback. Same story at Assen, where he fell down trying a decisive move for the victory ruining also Alex Marquez’s race after a strong comeback from behind.

Former Championship Leader still has good chances to fight for the title but surely needs to manage in a better way the whole race weekend in a season that was more like a ‘Win or bin’ one for the Italian guy.
Despite this, Lorenzo could have a great chance for 2020 as long as Ducati Avintia wants him for the next season, giving to Baldassarri the chance to compete in MotoGP.

Even in 2018 it seemed that Balda was really close to step up in the major class with Yamaha Petronas but at the end he stayed with Pons for another Moto2 season. This time, things seem to be different, with Italian rider being really close to be on MotoGP grid for 2020 with another big change. Lorenzo Baldassarri is actually part of VR46 Riders Academy, who manages him, but Balda is really close to end the relationship.

It would be a great change for him, with Simone Battistella ready to take care of Lorenzo; Battistella is actually the manager of Andrea Dovizioso and Alvaro Bautista and it is easy to understand that having this person with him could give a lot of benefits for Baldassarri’s career.
Lorenzo should take Tito Rabat’s place, with the Spaniard who seems to do not have any chance to stay, while Karel Abraham has a contract until 2020 but he is not sure to keep his seat for next year.
