#SpanishGP | Marquez Tops Warm Up at Jerez.
Marquez topped this morning’s Warm Up session at Jerez, ahead of today’s SpanishGP. Viñales followed in 2nd, with Mir hot on his heels in 3rd.
Yesterday’s qualifying session brought thrills and surprise, as Yamaha’s contender for Rookie of the Year, Quartararo stormed to pole position, setting an all new lap record on his way. Quartararo is also the first rookie from an Independent Team to qualify on pole position in the premier class since Zarco at the JapaneseGP in 2017. The Petronas Yamaha SRT team had a fantastic qualifying day as Morbidelli took 2nd on the grid, his best ever qualifying and first front row start in the premier class. Last year’s race winner, Marquez lines up 3rd for today’s race, for the first time in his premier class career he will be the oldest on the front row.
Marquez topped the session with a time of 1:37:595. Viñales closely followed in 2nd, with a time of 1:37:936, Mir rounded out the top 3 with a time of 1:38:056.
Top Yamaha was Viñales in 2nd. Morbidelli placed 4th, having set a time of 1:38:065. Rossi set a time of 1:38:565, placing him 15th. Quartararo placed 7th, with a time of 1:38:148.
Top Ducati was Petrucci who set a time of 1:38:172, which placed him 8th. Dovizioso placed 10th, with a time of 1:38:260. Rabat found himself in 14th position, having set a time of 1:38:561. Miller placed 18th, with a time of 1:38:842. Ducati’s contender for Rookie of the Year, Bagnaia found himself in 22nd, setting a time of 1:39:665. Abraham set a time of 1:39:480, placing him 20th.
Top Honda was Marquez who topped the time sheets. Nakagami placed 5th, with a time of 1:38:119. Crutchlow placed 9th, with a time of 1:38:232. Lorenzo placed 11th, with a time of 1:38:262. Honda test rider and wildcard, Bradl set a time of 1:38:484, placing him 13th.
Top KTM for this morning’s Warm Up session, was P. Espargaro, with a time of 1:38:336, placing him 12th. Zarco placed 19th, with a time of 1:39:134. Oliveira found himself in 21st position, having set a time of 1:39:488. Syahrin placed 23rd, setting a time of 1:41:092.
Top Aprilia for this session was A. Espargaro in 6th position, setting a time of 1:38:127. Aprilia test rider and wildcard, Smith, placed 17th, with a time of 1:38:840. Iannone has been declared unfit for today’s SpanishGP after injuring his foot in yesterday’s FP4 fall.
Top Suzuki was Mir in 3rd position. Rins placed 16th, with a time of 1:38:630.
Top Rookie this session was ****** in ******, he will be looking to continue this pace into the race and challenge for his best ever finish and some solid points to his Rookie of the Year contest.
The weather for today’s race looks to remain dry and bright with highs of 23ºC.
