Road America | Newgarden shows cheeseheads the way
Josef Newgarden displayed to Wisconsin how you get around a 4 mile road course.
One of the greatest race courses in the entire world, the 4 mile 14 turn road course nestled in the woods of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin was sight of round 9 in the IndyCar Championship.
IndyCar’s modern day American golden boy Josef Newgarden took the pole with a lap time of 1:43.203 meaning he was the guy who was going to bring them to the flag.
When the green flag would fly Josef Newgarden would check out from his 2nd place team mate Will Power who would suffer from engine issues and forcing Power to retire early.
Much of the early portion of the race would be lead by 3 American drivers with Newgarden leading over Ryan Hunter Reay in 2nd and Alexander Rossi in 3rd.
Around lap 10 Sebastien Bourdais would come in for a pit stop to address an electrical issue while running inside the top 5 spoiling his chance for a victory. He finished 13th.
While Bourdais was suffered electrical issues, Zach Veach was dealing with front suspension issues. Veach would come and address his issue lossing a lap and only finishing 22nd. Zach will be looking forward to better things in Iowa.
30 laps in Alexander Rossi would come in a lap earlier and lose a spot to the Kiwi Scott Dixon taking away Rossi’s chance of at least getting a podium spot.
Throughout the whole race it had been Josef Newgarden vs Ryan Hunter Reay for the top spot but the Tennessean came out on top of the Floridian by leading all but 2 laps and grabing the trophy in Elkhart Lake. Newgarden captured his 10th career win and 3rd this season.
