Williams finally hit the track on Day 3 of the first test
After missing the first two days of the opening test, Williams’ 2019 challenger belatedly made its debut at the Circuit de Catalunya today. Clare Williams described it as ‘’embarrassing’’.
In interviews with the media today, Clare Williams described Williams not having their car ready in time for testing as ‘’embarrassing’’ and the team was ‘’disappointed’’.
“We’re not just disappointed. It’s embarrassing not bringing a race car to a circuit when everyone else has managed to do that, particularly a team like ours that has managed to bring a race car to testing for the past 40-odd years.”
Clearly, we know the main culprits … not the main culprits, but the main elements to why we are delayed,” she said.
The FW42 eventually made its debut at the Circuit de Catalunya this afternoon, driven by British rookie George Russell. He completed 23 laps and his best time was a 1:25.625, almost a full 8 seconds off the pace of the time set by Daniil Kvyat in P1.

There are rumours that Paddy Lowe’s position is in question. As well as that, Andrew Benson wrote on the BBC website on Monday that ‘’Sources say the car is projected to be as much as two seconds slower than last year's, which was already the slowest on the grid.’’
Williams has an awful lot of work to do tomorrow and in the second test next week to understand their car and get good mileage before the Australian Grand Prix.
