Max Verstappen ends FP1 on top at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, having set a 1'16''656 and having edged out teammate Daniel Ricciardo by nearly half a second.

The first sample of the track has been taken at the Mexican track, which appeared to be rather green, as many drivers complained about the behaviour of their cars and tyres. Max Verstappen led the pack at the end of the first session, but such a result is not meant to be as indicative as FP2 especially due to the temperatures.

It was a Renault-dominated session, as the top 4 featured all French manufacturer-powered drivers. In fact, Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg finished 3rd and 4th, ahead of the Mercedes duo. Both Hamilton and Bottas ran only one set of HS and one of US tyres, ending up respectively 1.4s and 1.6s off the pace.

Ferrari follows with Vettel in 7th and Raikkonen in 8th. The Maranello-based squad decided to run a comparative test concerning their old and new floor, working hard on the set-up. Brendon Hartley managed to enter the top 10, as well as Nicholas Latifi on the Force India (+2.4s).

Home hero Sergio Perez clocked the 11th fastest laptime ahead of Sauber driver-to-be Antonio Giovinazzi. Romain Grosjean finished the session in P13 ahead of Ericsson and the McLaren duo.

Pierre Gasly did not manage to set a time, as the FIA confirmed the 8th PU has been fitted on the Frenchman's Toro Rosso.
