Belgian Grand Prix – Warm Up
Everything you need to know about tyres, penalties and the final starting grid for the thirteenth Grand Prix of the season.
Surprising, rainy qualifying session showed us how the team’s strategy and approach can make everything become upside down. Sebastian Vettel ‘s car ran out of battery during his final lap and Kimi Raikkonen had to stop the qualifying earlier than planned due to insufficient amount of fuel.
All of this allowed the new Force India team – now called Racing Point Force India – to gain a fantastic result, so the final table for the top-10 looks like this:
HAM, VET, OCO, PER, GRO, RAI, VER, RIC, MAG, BOT
The top-9 drivers will start the race on the Supersoft tyres, while Valtteri Bottas did his fastest lap on the Soft ones in Q2, thus, will start on these type of compounds.
Pirelli has brought three types of compounds for the Belgian Grand Prix – white Medium, yellow Soft and red Supersoft. Here's which compounds every driver still has available for the race.
Pirelli also revealed the quickest strategy for the race:
Quickest option is a one-stopper: one stint on supersoft for 16 laps plus one stint on soft to the flag. If starting on soft, change after 28 laps then supersoft to the flag.
If it’s warmer, or there’s some blistering on the supersoft, there are two possible alternative strategies: one-stopper: one stint on supersoft for 12 laps plus one stint on medium to the flag. Or: one stint on soft for 25 laps plus one stint on medium to the flag.
A two-stopper (two stints on supersoft for 13 plus 13 laps, then soft to the flag) would be more than 15 seconds slower.
As for the power unit changes and penalties ahead of the Grand Prix, let’s overview the below list.
