Magnussen sheds light on comments and apologises to Gasly for the Baku clash 

The Danish driver took to Twitter on Wednesday to clarify some comments made in an interview with Reuters before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix following on from other websites publishing them the day after the race.  

In the Reuters interview, he said: “I don’t like compromises. I will give everything. I will die in the car. I won’t hold back. I would put my life on (the line). Absolutely. When you put your helmet on and you’re in the race, I find that’s just everything there is in the world. I love my family, and there’s so many things in life I enjoy, but when I’m in the car there’s nothing else that means anything. For me, when I get in the car, the essential of life is Formula One.” 

His statement on Twitter said the following: “The interview was done before the race in Baku and is not minded on the incident with Pierre in the race. I didn’t squeeze Pierre on purpose and have apologised to him many times over the incident. 

I don’t want to die in a race car. I was expressing my willingness to give absolutely everything in my power to achieve success. Success to me obviously isn’t having accidents or getting penalties but finishing races in as high a position as possible. 

I am living my childhood dream of racing in Formula 1 and I’ve put my whole life into achieving that dream. It is only natural for me to be giving absolutely everything I’ve got, to achieve success in racing and the day I no longer do that I will retire from racing immediately.” 

Carey: Europe ''The home of this sport'' 

With Miami looking like it will join the calendar in the very near future, Chase Carey said to Autosport that European races will always be the home of F1: "We have been very clear from the day we came in about our goals and ambitions to grow the sport in the US, and also in Asia. 

We are very proud of the race we have in Texas, but we have talked about destination cities and I guess the three we have thrown out most often have been New York, Miami and Las Vegas. 

So, it fits with what we have been talking about and saying. But to be clear, it is not at the expense of the sport in Europe - which is the foundation of this sport, the home of this sport and this sport will always be built, as far as I am concerned, on its foundations." 

A live F1 post-race show to be exclusively shown on Twitter  

It was confirmed on Monday that Will Buxton will host an exclusive F1 programme to be broadcast on Twitter after 10 of the remaining 17 races in the 2018 season. ''The statement on the official Formula One site said: As of the Spanish Grand Prix and for a further nine rounds of the 2018 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, followers of the official @f1 account on Twitter will be able to access an exclusive live post-race show, hosted by leading broadcaster Will Buxton with accompanying F1 legends as co-hosts. 

F1 Live Show goes on air after the podium ceremony, live from the paddock where Will will bring the show to fans across the social platform throughout the season. He will be joined by a top-class panel featuring the likes of 2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg.  

Each show will feature Will interviewing the key drivers, engineers and team principals from the race. They’ll analyse the key moments of the race thanks to real-time race playback and amplify the conversation across Twitter’s fan community.'' 

The FIA forced to issue clampdown on oil burning once again  

Oil burning was a controversial issue last year – and it's been back in the headlines this week as the FIA's head of single seater technical matters Nikolas Tombazis told the teams they will be barred from filling up oil systems during qualifying: "Following numerous discussions on the subject, we wish to clarify that in order to allow the FIA to monitor oil consumption during the qualifying practice session in a precise and timely manner, no oil may be added to the car nor may any auxiliary oil tank (AOT) be activated, i.e. there may be no oil transfer between an AOT and any part of the engine lubrication system. 

"Exceptions to the above may however be granted on specific occasions following a request from the team concerned, any such exception will be made at the sole discretion of the FIA technical delegate."
