Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso is one of the most active F1 drivers in the last decade so far. The only one who jumps around other motorsport categories while keeping F1 close to the heart. Indeed, Alonso did announce plans to win motorsport's Triple Crown last year and to become the second driver in history to win the title after Graham Hill, who has completed the feat.

Last year, speaking during a live Q&A on Instagram, Alonso has cleared some statement for this year.

“As I’ve said many times, my aim is to be the best driver in the world, to be the most complete driver in the world. For that, you need to win in different series in different cars at different times.

“The Triple Crown is still a very big priority for me, so I’m working on that.” 

Last year, Alonso skipped the Monaco Grand Prix for the Indianapolis 500 in May as part of a joint entry between McLaren, Honda, and Andretti Autosport to accomplish the second leg of the goal, in a race then won by Japan’s Takuma Sato. Note that, Fernando has already accomplished the first leg, which is to win a race in Monaco Grand Prix, actually he won it twice. The third leg is that desire to race at 24 Hours of Le Mans this season.

The situation for the Spaniard is like this: A weekend without a race is a weekend lost. What actually Zack Brown has said earlier at Daytona about Fernando is totally right. "Fernando would live in a race car if he could," Brown said.


However, Alonso is making the endurance test of 24 Hours of Le Mans his chief priority this season, the Spaniard told Belgian daily Le Soiron Thursday.

After four races for McLaren this season in F1, Alonso is sixth in the F1 drivers' standings. The Spaniard is ready to take part on Saturday in the Belgian leg of the World Endurance Championships with Toyota, the first of six endurance races on his agenda this season.

"My priority is to live the Le Mans experience. A huge race," the Spaniard told Le Soir.

"I don't think I can save my F1 season but I have this opportunity to take part in Le Mans and I don't intend on wasting my chance," he added.

The 2005 and 2006 world champion is concerned about his adventure of becoming only the second driver to complete motor-racing's triple crown.

It is an unofficial motorsport achievement, often regarded as winning 3 of the most prestigious motor races in the world in one's career: The Indianapolis 500. The 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Monaco Grand Prix.

"In Formula 1 you go flat out on everything but here (at Spa) it is often the opposite, for example on braking," Alonso explained.

On Saturday, he will be one of 39 competitors for the Spa Six Hours along with team-mates Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima.
