F1 | Italian GP | Carlos Sainz: "I´m not gonna lie, it hurts to be starting at the back"
Carlos Sainz was third fastest today but will start from the 18th place due to a grid penalty. The Spanish driver reckons he would have liked to start at the front and fight for a 1-2

Carlos Sainz was the third fastest today in Monza. However, the Spanish driver will start from the 18th place due to a grid penalty for different changes of components.
After the qualifying session he explained his session was and that although he didn´t have the tow to get extra tenths with the penalty he would not have gotten the pole anyways.
“It was a very good qualy session. I was feeling very well and I was pushing flat out through Q1, Q2 and Q3. The only issue is that in Q3 I didn´t have a tow that probably cost me those 2-3 tenths in the battle for pole position, but I´m starting last anyway tomorrow so it´s not like it changes my life.”
About the lap he added he had to take risks to compensate for the lack of tow and explained the he was quick in the corners but not so much on the straights.
“Very good lap. I had to take a lot of risks to compensate for the lack of tow. I was quicker in every corner but slower in every straight so, in the end I could not improve much.”
He admitted it hurts to be starting at the back in Monza but promised he will do his best to put on a good show for the tifosi.
“I´m not gonna lie, it hurts to be starting at the back especially with how competitive the car is this weekend, how good I´m feeling on the car especially after this qualy and to know that I´ll be starting at the back. I mean, I will do my best and try to put on a good show and making it back through the field because the pace is there but I wish I could be there at the front with Charles in order to try and do and 1-2 tomorrow for the tifosi.”
