The Austrian Grand Prix was eventful to say the least. With track violations and penalties being handed out by race stewards, some drivers were mentioned more than others by the broadcast team, and others not so much; Ocon was one of them, who seemed to have a quiet race. He responded to media about the question:

“Not really, we had a fight with George [Russell], a fight with Kevin [Magnussen], a fight with Lewis [Hamilton] a bit. We had a lot of overtakes in between Guanyu Zhou, on quite a few drivers coming back through the field and it was awesome.

“It’s a perfect weekend I think for us, there’s nothing better we could have done. Top 5 is 13 points in total that we score this weekend, so it’s huge."

The Alpine team are now on 81 points, equalling closest rivals, McLaren.

“We gained a place I think in the Constructors’, being fourth at the moment. A really good one, we are going to France with good confidence.”

Esteban always looked to finish P5 or higher for most of race until Hamilton and Russell overtook the Frenchman for P3 and P4.

“I think we had the fourth quickest car this weekend, clearly. There was hopes that we could fight with George at the time but after the restart he was too fast, so I had to let him go.

“It looked like this weekend we were, and hopefully it will be on the rest of the circuits.

“[The next race at home] is going to be a good one.”

Ocon seemed happy with his results as he spoke over the team radio at the end of the race:

“Mega. Awesome, awesome job from the team and really good points.”

Team Chief, Otmar Szafnauer commented after the race:

“The best thing for me is that we had good race pace and that bodes well for future races. Esteban did a really good job and so did Fernando [Alonso] starting 18th and coming into the points, so very good.”

With Ocon staying ahead of his teammate in eighth place with 52 points in the title battle, and with the Alpine team scoring more points than McLaren this weekend, Otmar agreed, “It’s good.”
