A spin in the last moments of Q3 cost Charles Leclerc any chances of starting from pole for tomorrow's British Grand Prix, meaning he will be starting in P3 between the two Red Bulls.

P3 for Charles Leclerc at the end of a tight qualifying session under the rain in Silverstone where the Monegasque was battling to take pole position.

A pole position that seemed possible despite Verstappen’s good rhythm, until he sent his F1-75 into a 360-degree spin. Ultimately it was his teammate Carlos Sainz who took the pole - 0.072s off Verstappen’s best time -, his first in red and of his F1 career.

"I'm happy for Carlos, he did a great job today," Leclerc spoke in the post qualifying interview.

"I spun in that last lap, I knew it was the lap where I had to put everything together and I didn't as a driver so I didn't deserve to be on pole.”

"P3 is still a good position to start in for tomorrow's race and hopefully putting everything together we can come back."

With the Red Bull of Sergio Perez behind, Leclerc will be trying to advance and thin out the gap separating him from the lead of the championship, 39 points he has lost over the last few – quite unlucky - races.

“I think the pace is there, so if we have a clean race then everything should go well. A good start and then obviously time management will be a thing too.”

“I think the strategy is a bit mixed between one and two stops, so it will be interesting to see whoever is going for the one stop or two stops,” he said.

"Hopefully we will make the right choice and we can come back to where we want to be."
