Esteban Ocon scored points for Alpine for the seventh time this season and narrowly missed out on achieving a top-five result. The Frenchman’s strong P6 result along with teammate Fernando Alonso's P9 finish in Montreal also helped the team move up in the Consructors’ standings closer to McLaren. Ocon praised his team and expressed how pleased he was to deliver a strong result, after the race.

“I’m very happy with the result today to score eight points. The team did a great job with the car and the strategy and it was all well managed overall” Ocon said.

“Very good teamwork. At the end we’re trying to keep Fernando in the DRS and defending from Valterri was very close from what I saw in the mirrors, but everything was well executed and we can be pleased with what happened today.

“We leave Canada with some good points for the team and a big step up in the Constructors’ Championship. I’m glad I was able to help Fernando at the end there with DRS to keep Valtteri [Bottas] behind.

The Alpine driver also revealed he had a comical moment with his engineer who advised him to back off towards the end of the race.

“I mean you know Josh, my engineer was asking me to back off a tenth. That was quite funny to hear. How can I gauge a tenth?”

“But I tried my best, and it worked out in the end. And from the pitstop also which was very very late for the guys. They were ready and they were on it, so yeah that's been awesome.”

Combined, Ocon and Alonso scored a total of ten points for the Candian Grand Prix and were able to capitalize on the misfortunes of the McLaren team whose drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo  finished outside of the points. Alpine with 61 points now trails four points behind McLaren with  65 points the Constructor's standings. Looking ahead,  Ocon hopes that they can keep the consistent momentum for the next races on the schedule.

“I think it’s been a great result for the whole team today and you know we maximise quite a lot on the Constructors’ Championship, because obviously McLaren not scoring today is a big boost for us in the championship.”

“There is still a lot to discuss and learn with regards to how the weekend unfolded, but the important thing is to keep this momentum going and keep delivering good performances in the next races.”
