Voted the Driver of the Day Charles Leclerc gave out everything to make it from the 19th to the 5th place. The Monegasque had started from the back of the grid after taking multiple penalties for changing power unit elements.

He made up two positions on the opening lap in his bid to make it to the top ten.

The midfield battle cost Leclerc valuable time at first fighting Bottas and Albon to make it into the top 10, later he would struggle with Ocon while he was trying not to lose ground from the top three and finally after a poor pitstop by Ferrari he would fall to P12. He would finally drive through the midfield train led by Stroll to finally reach 5th place.

This wasn´t the best result championship wise considering Max Verstappen'w solid victory. However, Checo Perez´s retirement gave him the chance to cut the distance to the 2nd place in the championship standing and now is only 3 points behind the Mexican.

When asked by the media how he felt after his fifth place, Charles couldn´t hide his disappointment “Not great. Super frustrating race.”

He added: "Obviously we were fighting with cars that had much fresher tires so out of turn 10 I had no traction at all compared to them and it was just very difficult to make the overtakes like with Esteban, I think I stayed basically loads of laps behind him so a bit frustrating.

"Towards the end with the same tyre age I could be a bit more aggressive and launch into turn 10 which is where we made the positions but overall at the end starting from last you cannot expect much more especially because the Mercedes looked quite strong today so, it´s like this.”

About overtaking he explained: “I had to be more aggressive than what I would have liked. I knew that I had to take points today but nothing really went our way.”

The Monegasque couldn´t hide frustration and said: “With the pit stop also where we struggled at a pit stop and that made us fall behind the four cars that we were trying to clear so then I was in another DRS train and had to make up for it so it´s like this but considering the different situation we found ourselves in, that was the best result possible.”
