Mick Schumacher will start tomorrow´s Canadian GP from the sixth place with his 1:23.356; the German will start behind his teammate Kevin Magnussen. The Haas pair got the best result ever for the American team after Baku´s debacle last weekend.

His lack of points and mistakes put Schumacher under fire during the last weeks. However, the German proved today under the difficult conditions of the track that he can also thrive with Haas.

After the session, Mick talked to the media including MotorLat and explained: “Obviously, I was hoping for more. I think there was more in the car and in myself. I just didn´t maximise the last set part of the reason because of traffic and then other moments but in general very very happy.”

When he was asked about the mood in the Haas garage, he said: “I think it´s great but I think everybody is cautiously happy about it and just because we start tomorrow on the third row, but overall I think we´ve done a good job today which is good for the team but also good for us.”

About the tricky conditions Schumacher added: “There was a lot of standing water around so obviously that definitely didn´t help but I do have to say I enjoyed it a lot and I was feeling very comfortable which I think was displayed in my driving.”

About the relief a good result like this can mean, the 23-year-old said: “Well, it´s obviously nice to have a good result but it´s something to build on and it proves everybody that  I´m here for a reason.”

Tomorrow he will have to face tough competitors behind him: “We have a few cars which are quicker than us in the back so we just do our best for tomorrow but we know that we did a good day today.”

The possibility to score his first points is there for Schumacher and he is positive about it.

“Yes, anything can happen. This is Montreal and obviously a lot of laps a lot of opportunities to fend off but also to attack so we don´t give up today.”

When asked if his performance in the rain proves his critics wrong the young driver said “I don´t listen to that I´m here for a reason and that´s because I love the sport - and that´s why I´m here.”

About working together with his teammate and the discussion of  strategies to follow: “We just want to have the best result for Haas as a group as a whole. We´ll have an in-depth meeting about what we have to do to stay in these positions.”
