F1 | Azerbaijan GP | Ocon Experienced "Difficult Race Today But Positive To Leave With Both Cars In Points"
Exciting Azerbaijan GP as Alpine F1 Team leaves Baku with seven more points thanks to a double finish from Fernando Alonso P7 and Esteban Ocon P10. Alpine has reclaimed fifth in the Constructors Championship.
BWT Alpine F1 Team's goal for the day was to have both cars in the points at the end, which they can say they accomplished.
The Baku street circuit's features give a unique challenge for both drivers and is believed that finishing the points was probable.
This weekend, the team felt as if they had more possibilities.
Esteban Ocon had some unfortunate luck in qualifying, which pushed him back more than they would have wanted.
Ocon experienced pressure as he was forced to defend himself with worn tyres than his pursuers, but was helped by mighty top speed to fend off his pursuers. On the thirty-third lap, the Frenchman took his necessary stop, taking advantage of another VSC (virtual safety car) to finish P10.
Having said, both drivers made good progress and earned points which the team is anything but pleased to see a top 10 finish.
Ocon comments, "It was a very difficult race today, so it's positive to leave with both cars in the points and a new top ten."
He adds, "As always, we will analyze all of this with the team to see where we can improve. We were fast on Friday and Saturday, we can consider ourselves a bit unlucky in qualifying which did not help our position on the track this Sunday."
He concludes, "There was definitely the potential to do better if we can put it all together. We can leave Baku feeling positive and we are already looking forward to returning to Canada next weekend. The objective will be to continue to score points there"
The team will debrief over the following days before heading to Montreal for the resumption of Canadian Grand Prix after what has been two years. With them reclaiming fifth place in the Constructors' Championship, the team intends to hunt down McLaren for fourth in the Constructors' Championship.
Double points finish and lots of positive lessons for us to take into Canada! We'll see you next week for some maple syrup in Montreal! @OconEsteban #AzerbaijanGP pic.twitter.com/J8HAiy00hk
