F1 | Miami GP | Gasly "very very excited" for Miami weekend on and off track
Pierre Gasly shares his excitement for the first ever Miami Formula One Grand Prix between a fast track, a massively hyped bulid up and an inspiring dinner with NBA star Michael Jordan, all with an eye on his F1 future.
Formula 1 is making its debut in Miami this weekend in a newly created track – featuring long straights and a fake marina – that winds around the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
A debut that AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly is looking forward to with great excitement.
“It looks amazing, it looks really fast, two very long straight lines which is great because that means there will be a lot of overtaking,” he commented in front of medias including MotorLat this Thursday at the track.
The most challenging part, for what he could see so far on the simulator, should be the very fast fist sector, particularly Turn 7.
“On a track like Miami engine will be extremely important, because when I see all the long straights, you are gonna spend a lot of time full load,” he explained.

Track action will be starting tomorrow at 2:30pm local time with FP1, but the atmosphere around the circus has already left Gasly quite amazed.
“It’s like a Superbowl event, it feels like our Superbowl is Formula 1, I’ve never seen anything like this,” he commented.
“I had never seen a Wednesday in Formula One where people show up at the track in the way they did. There is a massive build up to it,” he continued.
“Everywhere we go everyone is talking about the race. I know a lot of people who don’t even have tickets, but they are coming to Miami because this is happening”
But what left him truly astonished was the dinner he shared with NBA legend Michael Jordan.
“It was by far the best experience of my life, the most inspiring dinner I’ve ever had,” he said.
“I didn’t know he is a massive F1 fan. He almost knows the sport better than I do, it was very impressive.”
“You always learn so much about these guys, the way they approach sport, success, fame, failure, how they got to that level and maintain this performance.”
“I don’t think there is anyone else in the world that I would have liked to meet more than him. A very, very special dinner.”

During the session Gasly was also asked about his Formula One future, something that is being discussed with both Red Bull and AlphaTauri and that certainly is on the back of his mind.
Currently the focus for the French driver, however, is on getting the most out of his AT03.
“I think what matters the most for me is just to perform with the car that I have, to feel that I’m doing the best with the tools that I have available right now,” he explained.
“Obviously you always have your future somewhere in your mind, but there are times when it’s the right moment to think about it, which is during off weekends. When I come here it’s not in my mind at all.”
“I think it’s pretty clear the situation I’m in, it’s pretty clear the ambitions that I have. There is interest, there is conversations with Red Bull and with AlphaTauri going on, on how we see the future and what’s best for all of us.”
“First we need to make sure to do the job properly and then the right decision will be made at the right time for the future,” he concluded.
