Aston Martin has been one of the teams that has struggled the most in this 2022 Formula 1 season. The British team had not scored any points until the last Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where they were no longer the last team in the constructors' championship, to move to ninth place with a total of 5 points, 1 obtained by a P10 from Lance Stroll and 4 points obtained by the four-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel, after a very important P8 for the team led by Mike Krack.

Aston Martin's German driver, Sebastian Vettel, has confessed that he had not realized the hard work that teams at the bottom of the grid have to do in order to score some points. The four-time world champion said his eighth-place finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, felt like a victory for the British team.

“It’s like a victory. We are not the fastest at the minute, I think we are pretty much at the other side of the field. But today we did really well,” the German stated after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and as reported by racefans.net.

Let us remember that in said Grand Prix there was presence of rain in various sessions, such as the sprint race and even in the main race. Vettel is known for his extensive experience in the highest category of motorsport. With the rain present on the circuit, Vettel commented that he planned to change from wet to dry tyres much earlier than the first driver, who was Daniel Ricciardo, did.

“The weekend helped us with the conditions, but we managed to capitalise. I think we did a great job on calling for the dries and everybody else then I think copied what we did. I was happy to go even a lap before or two. So it was really good.”

Likewise, Charles Leclerc made the well-known mistake of trying to stay in DRS range of Sergio Perez's Red Bull, however, he spun and ended up hitting the wall, which caused him to fall to ninth position and behind Vettel's Aston Martin. The German failed to retain him and finally the Ferrari managed to overtake.

“Obviously I had no chance to hold Charles off in the end, he is like four seconds faster, three seconds faster. But if you tell us that we are fighting a Ferrari with four laps to go before the race, I would have taken it.” The four-time world champion commented.

“It’s still eighth position, so it’s not as enjoyable as winning. But to be honest, I’ve driven a lot of races where I finished on the podium and I’ve done worse races, so I am very happy.”

“It’s harsh, you work your arse off and when you have a good package it’s easy to score good results and then it’s about perfection to deliver the perfect result. But the work that goes in at the back of the field, to be honest, for many years, I did not appreciate as much because I wasn’t there. But it’s the same work that goes in from all the people in the team.”

“And it’s even harder because you don’t get any cookie or any reward after the race. So try to make your dog jump without a cookie to please him afterwards, it’s hard. So it’s good for them and I’m happy for the team. Good to get both cars in the points as well,” the German driver stated.
