This new season is proving to be a challenge for some teams. McLaren was among those who clearly lost ground compared to their performance in the 2021 season after the first two back to back races of the season.

However, last week in Australia, the team showed a significant improvement with Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finishing 5th and 6th behind the Mercedes pair. Those 18 points moved them up to P4 in the Constructors' Championship.

Andreas Seidl and Lando Norris agreed that the positive result had to do with the Australian track layout and a small upgrade they took to Melbourne.

Talking to media, the team principal explained that McLaren has a plan “I’m very happy saying that we have a clear plan in place now of what we need to do with the car in terms of making steps in terms of performance.”

However, he adds that they need to be patient about the development “This will take a bit of time. So we need to be patient despite all the ambition. But the most important thing is we have a clear plan that we execute now.

Without going into much detail Seidl explained that “There are different parameters you have to manage when you do that, there’s the cost cap, which you need to consider, there is the limited windtunnel time also that you have nowadays, which you need to consider.”

About the problems that are affecting McLaren´s result Seidl explain to the publication that from the analysis of Bahrain the car is not good in low speed corners where they lose significantly compared to their rivals.

On what´s coming ahead, the Imola GP, McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo remains hopeful “I think we should be OK, it’s another fast-flowing track, it seems to suit our car a bit better for now. Hopefully, that’s one where we can show good pace again.”
