Not the best start of the season for Mick Schumacher who heads into the third race of the season without points despite Haas’ good performance.

In Bahrain his hopes of finishing in the top 10 crashed on the very first lap, when Esteban Ocon sent him spinning and left him with a damaged car, while in Jeddah he retired after an horrific crash at the end of Q2.

“Obviously, you try your best not to crash but we also want to go as quick as you can,” he said in a session with medias including MotorLat this Thursday.

“We were on a good lap, it was the final run of Q2 and to be able to get into Q3 you had to try something and we did.”

“We got onto that kerb and the kerb was just high for the car. We saw it with Fernando [Alonso] and also Esteban [Ocon], it nearly happened to them, so I guess that is something that we’ll have to review.”

The kerb leading up to Turn 10 had already raised safety concerns on Friday, sending F2 driver Cem Bolukbasi to the hospital.

A scary 33G impact that split Schumacher’s VF-22 in two and cost the team one million dollars in repairs.

The crash also means that Haas will have no spare chassis for any of the drivers, as the one used in Jeddah can be repaired but is currently in Singapore waiting to be shipped to Italy where Dallara manufacturer is based.

Not the easiest circumstances, but both Team Principal Steiner and Schumacher are hopeful to be able to do without.

“I think that everything is going to be just fine,” assured the 23-year-old. “We’ll be quick hopefully and we for sure won’t need that spare one.”

Quick, hopefully enough to be able to score points with both cars this Sunday at Albert Park.

"We always want to score points. We were close in Bahrain and that was after contact. I think the expectations are high for being in the points this weekend and I’m sure we’ll get there.”
