With the qualifying session now over, we can say that the Mexican driver, Sergio "Checo" Perez, has obtained pole position for the first time in his career in Formula 1. After a qualifying with two red flags caused by an accident with the Williams of Nicholas Latifi and a serious incident with the Haas of the German driver, Mick Schumacher, Sergio Perez managed to beat his teammate, Max Verstappen, who finished the session in P4 , as well as beating the two Ferrari drivers who were the most promising to take pole position. On the one hand, Charles Leclerc was positioned in first place in the three free practice sessions as he claims a free practice sweep. The Monegasque was probably the most probable driver to take pole position, nonetheless, Carlos Sainz finished in P1 in Q1 and Q2, but the Spaniard was not in total comfort with his F1-75 as he finished the session in P3, with the reigning champion, Max Verstappen, starting the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix alongside him in P4. Ferrari has been the strongest team all weekend long, however, they did not manage to obtain the result they were looking for and they aimed for. These are some thoughts Leclerc shared with us after his ‘disappointing’ P2 finish.

“That lap felt good honestly, I am very happy with my lap. Qualifying was all about just keeping it on track and not doing any mistakes, which would have been very costly. And then in Q3 in the second lap, I just went for it and I more or less put everything together.” The 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix winner commented.

We have to remember that any mistake at this Jeddah circuit can be extremely costly for drivers and teams, as was the case with the terrible accident involving Mick Schumacher's Haas. The German driver was on a flying lap when he had to correct the direction of his car, slowing down his racing line, causing him to overstep on a kerb and the rear axle of his car lost control, impacting heavily with the barrier, a fact that would cause him to be taken to the nearest hospital via helicopter, in addition to his car being split in two (literally) and leaving the German driver out of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which would take place tomorrow.

“There’s a bit here and there but I definitely did not expect Checo to come with that lap time, so congratulation to him. I am pretty sure he did an incredible job today. It’s another day tomorrow and hopefully we’ll have a good start.”

It was, is and will be an intense battle between both Red Bulls and both Ferraris, as for the second race in a row, these two teams are on the first two rows of the starting grid. Last weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix polesitter was Charles Leclerc with Max Verstappen alongside him, as his teammate was in P3 with the Mexican driver in P4. An exciting race is ahead of us and we will know who came on top when the chequered flag goes down in Jeddah.
